What is Oldhead?

The web series Oldhead displays the authenticity of the urban cultures throughout the Philadelphia communities. An Oldhead is an authoritative figure in the Philadelphia community who passes down wisdom to the younger generation. We want to give the audience insight on some of the socioeconomic issues inner city youth face such as drugs, violence, and lack of resources. A majority of the youth growing up in urban communities lack male authority figures in their lives. While producing this show, we aim to call back all the male leaders such as coaches, mentors and other authority figures that want to help our young people become productive citizens.

About the Director

Tony Chennault grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia where most of the residents lived under the poverty line, the kids in the neighborhood didn’t know their biological fathers, and people were in search of a medium to give them a voice. Tony’s voice was basketball as he was the top recruit out of his class and chose Wake Forest University to further his basketball career. He had great success and was living the dream until he found out that his mother’s health was deteriorating. He returned home to be closer to his mother. Before he could return home, Tony’s older brother and biggest supporter Mike was killed as an innocent bystander in a drive-by shooting. This caused a shift in Tony’s passion as he took on Mike’s passion for producing and writing stories that promote socioeconomic change. Tony’s goal is to shed light on the stories that aren’t being told and give a voice to those who may not have one.
